What makes aircraft and aviation parts different

In aviation, a part without its documentation is scrap. Airworthiness release certificates and traceability records are what make a component installable, and they have to travel with the shipment and match it exactly. Add to that the fact that many aviation components are dangerous goods — oxygen generators, hydraulic accumulators, batteries, pyrotechnic devices — and the category needs handling by people who know which is which.

Handling and packing considerations

These are the points that decide whether aircraft and aviation parts arrives in a usable condition rather than merely arriving.

  • Airworthiness release documentation (such as FAA 8130-3 or EASA Form 1) must accompany the part.
  • Part numbers and serial numbers on the documents must match the goods exactly.
  • ESD-sensitive avionics need appropriate packaging maintained throughout.
  • Oxygen generators, hydraulic accumulators, and pyrotechnic devices are dangerous goods.
  • Aircraft on Ground shipments need a routing chosen for speed and reliability over cost.
  • Large components such as engines and landing gear need purpose-built stands.

Permits, controls, and the regulatory position

Aviation parts are subject to normal import declaration, and many are also subject to export control in the country of origin, particularly anything with a defence application. Dangerous-goods classification applies to a significant share of aviation components. Traceability documentation is a commercial and airworthiness requirement rather than a customs one, but it determines whether the part has any value on arrival.

Questions we get asked about this

What happens if the documentation does not match the part?

The part cannot be installed. A serial number mismatch between the release certificate and the component makes it unusable regardless of its physical condition. Verify the match before the part ships, not on receipt.

Which aviation parts are dangerous goods?

More than people expect — chemical oxygen generators, hydraulic accumulators, fire extinguishers, batteries, escape slides, and pyrotechnic devices among them. If a part contains stored energy or a chemical charge, assume it needs classification and check.

Can you handle AOG shipments?

AOG work is about routing for reliability and having the documentation ready to move with the part. Tell us it is AOG in the first message and give us the part details — the coordination is different from a routine shipment from the outset.
