Solar equipment is an odd freight profile: panels are light for their size but extremely vulnerable to point loading and flexing, inverters are dense electronics, and battery storage systems are regulated dangerous goods. A single project shipment can contain all three, and treating it as one homogeneous consignment is how panels arrive with micro-cracks nobody can see until commissioning.

  • Panels must ship on edge in purpose-built pallets, never stacked flat under load.

How do solar panels get damaged in shipping?

Micro-cracking from flexing or point loading, usually caused by stacking flat, poor pallet design, or rough handling. The damage is invisible to the eye and shows up as reduced output. Manufacturer-standard edge-on pallets and careful handling are the only reliable prevention.

Can battery storage systems be air freighted?

Large lithium battery systems are heavily restricted by air and in many cases effectively sea-only. The chemistry, capacity, and state of charge all matter. Give us the specification early — this determines the whole shipping plan.

Should I ship the whole project in one consignment?

Usually not. Panels, inverters, and batteries have different handling and regulatory profiles, and combining them means the strictest requirement governs everything. Splitting by commodity is normally cheaper and faster.
